Seeking children's support worker
We are looking to recruit a Support worker/Session assistant for our thriving Children’s Meeting at Sheffield Quaker Meeting House. We support approximately 25-30 primary and early secondary age children. Children’s meeting takes place each Sunday 10.25am – 11.30am.
The Meeting begins with a 10 minute greeting circle, breaks into 2 or 3 groups and comes together in the main Meeting for Worship at 11.20am. Group activities are led by members of the Children & Young People’s Work Committee along with regular volunteers who are all DBS checked.
A primary purpose of the role is to provide one to one support and supervision for a 7 year old child with special needs when he attends Children’s Meeting. Particular needs include severe learning difficulties related to Down’s Syndrome and profound hearing loss (for which he has a cochlear implant). Primary communication is via a mixture of Makaton signs, pictures and the child’s own developed ways of communication.
This is a fixed term post, running until 20th July 2014.
