Sheffield Quakers

We are fortunate to have two Quaker meetings in Sheffield – a large central meeting (close to the cathedral) and a smaller meeting in Nether Edge. Both meetings have their main meeting for worship from 10.30 to 11.30 every Sunday. (On the 4th Sunday of the month, the main meeting at Sheffield Central starts at 9.30am. Click on the tab ‘Meetings’ for more information.)

Nether Edge Meeting meets in rented premises in Shirley House on Psalter Lane, with a typical attendance of 15 to 20. As well as meeting for worship it provides various opportunities to meet for reflection, study, outreach and social events.

Sheffield Central Meeting is large (up to about 70 attending), with activities for all ages.

On Sunday mornings there are organised group activities for children.

These two meetings are strongly linked and their attenders share many of their activities, some of which can be seen on the News, Events, and About pages. At times, we have also offered several opportunities for Meditation, as a preparation for meeting for worship, or as another spiritual practice. However, at the present time, there is just a monthly group.

The two Sheffield Quaker meetings, together with Balby (Doncaster) Meeting and Hope Valley Meeting (based in Bamford at the Quaker Community) are grouped together as Sheffield and Balby Area Meeting which meets regularly as the co-ordinating meeting of Quakers in this area. [The original Balby meeting, one of the world’s oldest Quaker Meetings, dates back to around 1652.]
