Sheffield Central Meeting

The city centre meeting is a very lively and active meeting, with activities for all ages. We aim to give a warm welcome to all, but we are also aware that many ‘seekers’ wish to set their own pace – you will not be pressured in any way, but we will be delighted to see you.

There are two Meetings for Worship every Sunday. The main meeting is at 10.30 – 11.30am every Sunday, and during that period there is excellent provision for children. There is a creche (with qualified creche worker) for the tiny ones, and group activities for the older ones. There is also an active teenagers group which meets once a month.

We meet for silent meeting for worship (often around 70 or so of us) and the children join us for the last ten minutes of the meeting. After meeting, we enjoy coffee and social time together and there is also a regular group (known as Meeting for Reflection) where a gentle discussion follows on from the meeting for worship, picking up the same themes, or moving on from them…

There is an additional meeting at 9.00am on the second, third, fourth (and fifth, when it happens) Sunday. This is usually a much smaller group. On the third Sunday of every month, this meeting is preceded by breakfast at 8.15am which is a lovely sociable time. On the first Sunday of the month, an additional meeting takes place at 10.45 – 11.30am, catering for those who appreciate a small meeting.

During the week there are many other activities, such as a half hour lunch-time meeting on Wednesdays at 12.00 noon, followed by a shared lunch.

There are numerous groups catering for special interests, such as our Peace Group. (More information can be found on the Peace Group page) There are also opportunities to study more about Quaker beliefs, to walk together, swim together, explore spiritual themes, share literature we love…..

The meeting house is very close to the Cathedral, so it is well served by public transport, in particular trams and buses.
