Nether Edge Meeting

Worship

Nether Edge Quakers hold Meeting for Worship every Sunday from 10.30 am to 11.30 a.m. followed by refreshments. We welcome visitors and this smaller meeting is a gentle introduction to the ‘silence’ of Quaker worship.

If you are unfamiliar with the nature and conduct of a Meeting for Worship, the national Quaker website page on Quaker Worship gives a good description. As in any Meeting for Worship, we respect all contributions, leaving silent space between each one, and aim to avoid the meeting becoming a conversation or discussion.

Community

Despite our relatively small numbers we aim to provide various opportunities to meet for reflection, study and outreach. The meeting has its own well-used library – with books about Quakers and Quakerism together with others on wider religious and social issues.

In addition to our brief social and refreshment time after each Sunday meeting, we have occasional social events and activities such as walks and shared lunch. We are also involved in many activities with our Friends in Sheffield Central Meeting.

Practicalities

Shirley House, 31 Psalter Lane, Sheffield S11 8YL, is to the left of St Andrew’s church and shares a car park with the Southcroft Methodist care home. The building is accessible to wheelchair users.

Please note that we do not generally provide any separate activities for children at our meetings. If you hope to bring a young child to Meeting please contact us beforehand.

For telephone enquiries please ring the Central Meeting House on 0114 275 7390 or contact one of our Meeting’s Elders on 0114 258 2567. You can also reach us by email at sheffieldnetheredge@quaker.org.uk
